Intervention1: Intravenous magnesium sulphate infusion: Intravenous magnesium sulphate was started with a loading dose of 100 mg/kg given over 30 minutes followed by an infusion at the rate of 40mg/kg

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: All consecutive patients (sample size 30) admitted to the PICU with a clinical diagnosis of tetanus were enrolled after taking informed consent.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: patients with renal dysfunction ie S. creatinine >1mg/dL or urine output <1mg/kg/hour were excluded

time for control of spasms and muscle rigidity time to initiation of feeds, need for additional sedation or paralysis, need for tracheostomy and ventilation Timepoint: 2years

MeasureTime frame
duration of PICU stay and hospitalization complications of the disease and/or therapy, outcome in terms of discharge or death and cause of death in the event of death Timepoint: 2years
