Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Rectal cancer with enlarged lateral pelvic nodes. 2. Biopsy proven adenocarcinoma 3. Age > 18 years 4. Medically fit for treatment â?? surgery/ chemoradiotherapy. 5. No prior history of treatment with radiation, chemotherapy or surgery. 6. Patient willing and reliable for follow-up.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Any other malignancy in any site. 2. Expected survival less than 6 months.

MeasureTime frame
1. To evaluate the efficacy of FDG PET/CECT in detecting metastatic spread in locally advanced rectal cancer who have enlarged lateral pelvic nodes on conventional imagingTimepoint: after completion of study; i.e, after 24 months

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
1. To evaluate the sensitivity of FDG PET/CT in detection of lateral pelvic nodes and compare with conventional imaging (CECT). 2. To follow up patients with positive lateral pelvic nodes for 3 years to look for recurrence. 3. To assess disease free and overall survival.Timepoint: 5 years
