Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: All neonates admitted in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) requiring Packed Red Blood Cell or Whole Blood (for exchange transfusion)

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Any infant detected with electrolyte disturbance or hypoglycemia before starting Packed Red blood cell or Whole blood transfusion.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
1.To see the effect on the blood glucose and serum electrolytes (Na+ , K+, Ca++) in neonates 6-hours after PRBC/WB transfusion. 2.To see the rise in Hb / PCV 6-hours after PRBC/Whole Blood transfusion. Timepoint: 6-hours after transfusion

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
1.To see the effect of PRBC/WB on the hemoglobin level of a neonate at 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 16, 20 & 24 weeks. 2. To look for the effect of Exchange Transfusion on the Hb F and Hb A levels in neonates till 6 months of age. Timepoint: 6-months
