Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. American Society of Anaesthesiologists Physical Status I and II adults 2. Either gender 3. Aged 18-65 years 4. Scheduled for elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy under general anaesthesia

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Patients with cardiovascular disease 2. Diabetes Mellitus 3. Jaundice, hepatic or renal disease 5. Pregnant females 6. Currently receiving opioids, steroid or antiemetic drugs 7. Increased intracranial tension 8. Cancer patients on chemotherapy or opioids 9. Abnormal blood glucose on the morning of surgery

1. To compare the severity of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV), the requirement of rescue antiemetics in the three groups. 2. To determine the optimum dose of dextrose for prevention of PONV. 3. To compare intraoperative and patient characteristics in patients with and without PONV. Timepoint: At 0, 30 min, 60 min, 90 min, 2 h, 6 h and 24 h after arrival in Post Anaesthesia Care Unit
