Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. ASA physical status less than or equal to III 2. 18-75 years of age 3. Endoscopically/histologically confirmed carcinoma of stomach planned for elective gastrectomy 4. Adequate liver and renal function

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Patient refusal 2. Patients with uncontrolled diabetes 3. Patients in whom thoracic epidural analgesia is not feasible 4. Patients who are not motivated or not willing to perform incentive spirometry.
