Interventions

Intervention1: curcumin tablets: 95% curcuminoid content, given in doses of 500mg a day for 6 weeks Control Intervention1: placebo tablets: gelatin capsules

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1) Patients suffering from chronic periodontitis. 2) Patients between age group 30-60 years. 3) Probing pocket depth >=5mm. 4) Clinical attachment loss >=3mm. 5) Number of remaining teeth >=20 excluding third molars. 6) Systemically healthy patients. 7) Patients with no history of allergy to drugs used or prescribed inthis study.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1) History of underlying systemic disease. 2) Pregnant and lactating females. 3) Patients who have undergone periodontal treatment within a period of 6 months. 4) Under antibiotic/NSAIDS treatment during past 6 months. 5) Patients with plaque index > 1 and who donâ??t follow oral hygiene instructions after phase I therapy. 6) Patients on steroid therapy and oral contraceptives. 7) History of tobacco chewing and current or former smoker. 8) Patients who did not accept terms and conditions of the study.
