In patients undergoing surgery for deviated nasal septum, we will measure the activity of the clearance of the nasal mucosa with the help of a procedure called rhinschintigraphy which will detect the movement of radionucleotide material in the nasal cavity.

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: For the patient group, subjects between the age group of 18 to 60 years with complaints of chronic nasal obstruction and who are diagnosed with Nasal septal deviation by means of anterior rhinoscopy and endoscopic nasal examination by an ENT specialist. For the comparision group healthy subjects between the age group of 18 to 60 years will be included.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients with choncha bulosa, allergic rhinitis, chronic sinusitis, nasal polyposis, inferior turbinate hypertrophy, acute upper respiratory tract infection, rhino-sinusitis within the last 2 weeks, any systemic illness , lactation, smokers, on any drug therapy within the last week and those who are pregnant are excluded from this study.

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Nasal septal deviation is expected to decrease nasal mucociliary activity. The Septoplasty operation is expected to improve the reduced nasal mucociliary transport rates after surgery.Timepoint: Twice first time before the surgery and second time 3 months after surgery.
