Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients of all ASA class with no known medical or surgical illness causing impaired glucose metabolism admitted for elective or emergency surgery.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Unwilling, uncooperative, known diabetic, pregnant, lactating females, infants, patients with difficult IV access and patients on IV fluids for more than 24 hours were excluded from the study.
