Intervention1: Barley Scientific Name: Hordeum vulgare : NCEP-STEP-I Diet + 30% of carbohydrates replaced from Barley flour. Doses:80-120 gm /day depending on the daily energy requirement of respond

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Waist circumference (males: >=90 cm and for females: >=80 cm), 2. Triglycerides >=150 mg/dl (1.7 mmol/l), 3. Low HDL (Males 4. Systolic blood pressure >=130 mmHg and/or Diastolic blood pressure >=85 mmHg. 5. Elevated blood sugar (fasting blood sugar >=100 mg/ dl ( 5.6 mmol/l). To be enrolled in the study, patients had to have >=3 of the above-mentioned criteria to be classified as having metabolic syndrome.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. if they were diagnosed with the following diseases such as thyroid disease or diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular diseases, chronic liver or kidney disease, advanced cancer or any other chronic disease. 2. Subjects were excluded if they were already on a specific diet and exercise recommendations and not willing to participate.

Secondary outcomes were changes in the Anthropometry, body composition and nutrients intake assessed at every month during the 3 month of dietary intervention including: body composition(body weight, BMI, visceral fat, body fat and, resting metabolic rate) Waist & hip circumference. Intake of all the major and minor nutrients. Timepoint: end of one month,two month and three month.

MeasureTime frame
The changes in the clinical and biochemical risk factors followed up at every month during the 3 month of dietary intervention including: blood pressure, blood glucose Fasting lipid profile: Total cholesterol, triglycerides, low density lipoprotein (LDL), High density lipoproteins (HDL), Very low density lipoproteins (VLDL). Timepoint: After one month,two month and three month.
