Intervention1: Evolvulus alsinoides: Hydro-alcoholic Extract of 8 g powder filled in capsules once daily for 6 Weeks Control Intervention1: Ramipril: 5 mg once daily for 6 Weeks

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients with essential hypertension (stage I hypertension based on JNC-7 classification) preferably patients with systolic 140 -155 and diastolic 90-95 mm Hg Clinically stable patients Patients of both genders Patients not taking any anti-hypertensive drugs Patients willing to sign the informed consent form and participate in the trial voluntarily

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Stage II essential hypertension Secondary hypertension Diabetes mellitus and thyroid dysfunctions Patients with acute infectious disease/s Patients with systemic disorders like chronic liver, kidney or heart disease etc Pregnant and lactating mothers Terminally ill patients with infectious diseases like AIDS and Tuberculosis etc Patients who fail to give consent Patients who fail to follow up
