Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1 Age between 18-70 years 2 American Society of Anaesthesiologists (ASA) Grade I or II. 3 Patients with weight >=50kg 4 Patients undergoing lower extremities and infra umbilical surgeries under spinal anaesthesia. 5 Pre operative GRBS between 80 - 180 mg %
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1.Recent IV or oral steroid therapy within last 48 hours 2.Allergy to dexamethasone 3. Conversion to General anaesthesia 4.Body mass index >35

| The outcome of the study is to observe blood glucose concentrations after placebo and 4 or 8mg of dexamethasone in non-diabetic and type 2 diabetic patients undergoing routine surgery under spinal anaesthesia.Timepoint: Finger prick capillary blood glucose will be measured immediately before dexamethasone administration (T0) and at 60 minutes (T1), 120 minutes (T2), 180 minutes (T3), 240 minutes (T4), 360 minutes (T5) and 480 minutes(T6) thereafter using a glucometer | — |
