Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1.Children aged less than 15 year 2.Acute severe asthma [acute exacerbation of asthma not controlled with inhaled beta 2 agonists, moist oxygen inhalation and steroids with Becker score >7 3.Episode of acute onset wheeze in whom thorough elicitation of history from parents, clinical presentation and examination, make the diagnosis of bronchial asthma very likely according to the criteria laid down by British Thoracic Society
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1.Episode of acute onset wheeze in whom thorough elicitation of history from parents, clinical presentation and examination, make the diagnosis of bronchial asthma very unlikely according to the criteria laid down by British Thoracic Society 2.Children with modified GCS 7 or less and not able to maintain their airway protective reflexes 3.Those with having thick trachea-bronchial secretion 4.Intestinal obstruction 5.Any mid-face abnormality (i.e maxillary hypoplasia,small chin), facial burns 6.Severe vomiting 7.Fixed upper airway obstruction 8.Undrained pneumothorax 9.Vasoactive Inotrope score >10(i.e. inj. Dopamine >10 mcg/kg/minute) at the time of PICU admission.
