Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Patients of all age group with peripheral lymphadenopathy clinically suspected to be of tubercular origin at any superficial body site ( >2cms) not relieved by 2 weeks of antibiotic treatment as per RNTCP protocol. 2. The fine-needle aspirated samples were collected from both outdoor and indoor patients. 3. Clinical symptoms suggestive of tuberculosis include fever, cough, anorexia or weight loss and lymphadenopathy. 4. Patients not having any symptoms of tuberculosis yet persistent lymphadenopathy. 5. For paediatric population national tuberculosis guidelines were followed.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1.Previously diagnosed Cases of Tuberculosis and cases already getting Anti Tubercular Treatment 2.Patient unwilling for FNAC and participation in the study. 3.History of known malignancy on cellular or biopsy evidence/Human Immunodeficiency Virus infection by serological examination

Primary

MeasureTime frame
PCR proved to be better diagnostic modality than cytology and histopathology for diagnosis of tubercular lymph nodes. PCR can detect tuberculosis even when there is no granuloma or other features present.Timepoint: 2 years
