Intervention1: clonidine 5 mcg/kg orally.: All the premedicants were given with syp. Paracetamol 2-2.5 mg/kg to be easily drinkable 45 min before surgery
Intervention2: dexmedetomidine 3 mcg/kg orally

Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Patients of age 2 - 14 years, either sex, American society of anaesthesiologists (ASA) grade I and II posted for elective sub umbilical surgery under general anaesthesia were included in the study.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria • Age >14 years • ASA grade III and IV. • Any systemic disease that compromises any cardiovascular, • respiratory or neurological function. • History of upper and lower airway disease or infection. • Coagulation disorders. • Known allergy to the study drugs. • History of sleep apnoea. • The need for postoperative ventilation.
