Conditions

Health Condition 1: null- All patients aged 1month to 12 years admitted in Paediatric intensive care unit in whom antibiotic therapy is initiated for a confirmed OR suspected infection

Interventions

Intervention1: Procalcitonin levels in serum: Procalcitonin levels will be tested at entry and every 48 hours till antibiotics are administered Control Intervention1: No intervention: Will be treated

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: All children admitted in Paediatric intensive care unit in whom antibiotic therapy is initiated for a confirmed OR suspected infection

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1 Patients being treated with prophylactic antibiotics 2 Patients with immunodeficiency like HIV, malignancy, chemotherapy etc. 3 Patients with snake envenomation receiving antibiotics for suspected infection. 4 Patients with disease states warranting prolonged antibiotic therapy (Infective endocarditis, septic arthritis, tuberculosis etc.)
