Health Condition 1: null- Adult patients without any liver and renal dysfunction, and hypersensitivity to local anesthetic drug bupivacaine, undergoing elective midline laparotomy.

Intervention1: Bupivacaine (0.25%): Bupivacaine 0.25%, will be administered continuously into the laparotomy wound in the pre-peritoneal plane at a rate of 6 ml/ hr, for a duration of 48 hours

Eligibility
Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: All adult patients undergoing elective abdominal surgery via a midline laparotomy incision and not requiring creation of stoma.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. Impaired renal function 2. Impaired liver function 3. Presence of psychiatric illness 4. Chronic analgesic intake 5. Allergy to bupivacaine
