Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: ASA grade 1 and 2 patients undergoing elective laparoscopic surgery.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: • History of any intracranial pathology • Patients with history of left ventricular failure, atrioventricular conduction block or any cardiac disease • Any intraocular/ophthalmic pathology • Patients with history of uncontrolled hypertension or diabetes. • Patients with renal and hepatic derangements • Patients taking clonidine, beta blocking drugs, calcium channel blockers, MAO inhibitors • Pregnant & lactating women • History of allergy to α2 agonist

MeasureTime frame
1. to assess the change in optic nerve sheath diameter after pneumoperitoneum in the presence and absence of dexmedetomidine infusion.Timepoint: to assess the change in optic nerve sheath diameter 5 minutes after induction of anesthesia, 5 minutes after pneumoperitoneum, 5 minutes after patient position change and 5 minutes after desufflation.

We wish to see if dexmedetomidine causes changes in intracranial pressure caused by change in positioning after pneumoperitoneum.Timepoint: 5 minutes after position change once pneumoperitoneum has been established.
