Conditions

Health Condition 1: null- Case: Anemic children aged 6-59 months with Hb 11 g/dL and serum ferritin 12 µg/L and/or transferrin saturation 16%. Control: Age-matched non-anemic healthy children with Hb � 11 g/dL.

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Anemic children aged 6-59 months with Hb <11 g/dL and serum ferritin < 12 µg/L and/or transferrin saturation <16%.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Concomitant infection (ascertained on history) and CRP positive, chronic illness (renal, liver, infectious, hematological, inflammatory disease), recent (within 3 months) blood transfusion, children receiving hematinics/micronutrient supplements, any malignant disease and MCV > 100 fL.
