Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Individuals with a minimum of 20 teeth will be enrolled in the study. 1. Group I a. Chronic periodontitis patients with more than 30% of sites with the presence of a PPD of >= 5mm and CAL of >= 5mm. b. Patients with no history of smoking. 2. Group II a. Chronic periodontitis patients with more than 30% of sites with the presence of a PPD of >= 5mm and CAL of >= 5mm. b. Patients with history of smoking at least 10 cigarettes per day for the last 3 years.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusion Criteria: 1. Pregnant women or lactating mothers. 2. Subjects who have undergone any periodontal therapy in the past 6 month. 3. Subjects on antibiotics, anti-inflammatory therapy, or vitamin/nutritional supplements. 4. Subjects with systemic diseases such as diabetes mellitus, hyperten-sion, renal disease, rheumatoid arthritis, periapical infection of any tooth, or any other form of systemic inflammatory in¬volvement
