Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 50 ASA I and II patients scheduled to undergo elective, primary, unilateral open inguinal hernia repair under subarachnoid block (SAB) will be enrolled in the study

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - Age - Body mass index >= 40kg/m2 - Inability to consent to the study - Local infection at the puncture site - Allergies / contraindications to any of the drugs used in the study - Chronic hepatic or renal disease - Cardiac disease - Pre-existing neurological deficits - Psychiatric illness - Preoperative opioid or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug treatment for chronic pain - Regional block refusal / contraindication - Inability to understand the scoring systems to be used in the study

MeasureTime frame
The primary outcome measure of the study will be 24 hour analgesic consumptionTimepoint: The primary outcome measure of the study will be 24 hour analgesic consumption

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
pain scores, time to first request for rescue analgesic and side-effects in the postoperative period. Timepoint: on admission to the PACU and then at 1h, 2h, 4h, 8 h, 12 h, 18 h and at 24 hour interval
