Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Patients once diagnosed as acute pancreatitis by the surgeon will be enrolled in the study. Those with features predicting severe acute pancreatitis will be included in the study. The predictors for severe attack will include presence of SIRS on admission or 48 hours later; or presence of obesity; or clinical suspicion of severity; or Glasgow (Imrie) score or Ransonâ??s score of 3 or more, or Acute Physiology And Chronic Health Evaluation (APACHE) II score greater than 8 within 48 hours after admission. All of these indicators have been previously established and are recommended to predict a severe attack.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Failure of epidural block or any contraindication to performance of epidural block.
