Intervention1: Psycho social interventions along with Intensive case management.: Education and training for persons diagnosed with severe alcohol dependence. The contents of the intervention will inc
addressing and identifying high risk situations
assertiveness skills and cognitive training
handling crisis and interventions focusing on the family as a whole. All these will be provided by the researcher who will liaison for the patients with the treating team using the Intensive Case Ma

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1) Persons in the age group of 18 years up to 50 years residing in Bangalore city. 2) Persons diagnosed with Alcohol Dependence Syndrome as per the ICD-10 presenting with complicated withdrawal and are receiving treatment at the Centre for Addiction Medicine, NIMHANS. 3) Persons who fulfill the criteria for Severe Alcohol Dependence (i.e. Complicated alcohol withdrawal) adopted for the study. 4) A spouse/family member or relative currently living with the patient since the last 1 year. 5) Persons who are willing to consent and participate in the study and can converse in Kannada and English

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1) Persons diagnosed with Alcohol dependence syndrome and presenting with simple/uncomplicated alcohol withdrawal symptoms. 2) Persons diagnosed with other severe substance use disorders. 3) Persons with other co-morbid psychiatric illness. 4)Persons with unstable medical or neurological conditions requiring inpatient management. 5) A spouse/family member who consumes alcohol and who have a severe mental illness. 6) A spouse/family member or relative who is not been living with the patient since the last one year.
