Comparision of effect two drug combinations (levobupivacaine with clonidine and ropivacaine with clonidine) on post-surgery pain relief in children (01-06 years) undergoing surgeries below umblicus when drugs are given in space overlying spinal cord.

A prospective double blind comparative clinical study between caudal levobupivacaine (0.125%) with clonidine and ropivacaine (0.125%) with clonidine on post operative analgesia in pediatric patients undergoing infraumblical surgery.

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: •Patients undergoing elective infraumblical surgery with caudal block. •Aged between 01-06 years. •ASA grade 1 & 2. •Those who are willing to give written consent.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: •Parental unwillingness •Body weight > 20 kgs •Children with pre existing neurological or spinal disease, cardiovascular,respiratory, renal, hepatic or any other systemic disease •Bleeding diathesis •Infection at the site of block •Abnormalities of the sacrum •Allergic to local anaesthetics •Aspirin ingestion in the preceding week •Chronic use of any anti inflammatory drugs

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Blood Pressure, heart rate and oxygen saturation.Timepoint: Every 5 minutes intraoperatively and every 15 minutes postoperatively.
