Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients of ages 1-18 years diagnosed as Type 1 DM as per standardized criteria

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1.Patients already on Vitamin D supplements since preceding one month 2.Patients with a)Malabsorption syndrome b) Known Immunodeficiency, HIV infection c)Urolithiasis or nephrolithiasis or nephrocalcinosis d) Chronic kidney disease e)Adrenal tumors. 3.Patients receiving steroid therapy 4. Parents not affordable to carry out self-monitoring of blood glucose at home.

Mean change in HbA1C levels from baseline at time of recruitment to the level at 6 months Timepoint: 6 months

1.Mean change in Insulin requirement/day 2.Mean change in Human Glutamic Acid Decarboxylase Antibody (GAD65) titers 3.Mean change in C-peptide levels Timepoint: 0,6 months
