Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Suffering from type II diabetes mellitus.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: • Those who were on treatment for any diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, hypercholesteraleamia were excluded from the study when their medications were changed due to any reason. • Advanced complications of diabetes, such as retinopathy with laser treatment, neuropathy with renal impairment and extensive diabetic ulcers. • Those who receive insulin therapy. • Those who did not consume rice as the staple food. • Patients who did not understand English and/or Sinhala language
