Interventions

Intervention1: Individualized homoeopathic medicines in centesimal potencies: Four cane sugar globules number 30 medicated with individualized homoeopathic dilutions in appropriate potencies prepared
repetition 2 to 6 hourly or even oftener,depending upon the intensity of symptoms
duration of such intervention is two weeks Control Intervention1: Placebo: Four cane sugar globules number 30 moistened with 83.1% v/v ethanol, to be taken orally on clean tongue
duration of such intervention is two weeks

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: a)Age between 51-86 years b)Both sexes c)Clinically diagnosed cases of knee osteoarthritis, as per American College of Rheumatology criteria, suffering from acute painful episodes of the condition; with or without involvement of other joint(s); with or without imaging and/or other investigational evidences d)Patients already undergoing regular oral/topical analgesics/NSAIDs therapy for acute inflammatory episodes of osteoarthritis, provided the medications are stopped completely; patients on life-saving conventional drug therapies, e.g. anti-diabetics, anti-hypertensives, thyroid drugs etc. for co-morbidities under control, will be continued

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: a)Severe degeneration of knee joint with marked joint narrowing,varus, or valgus deformity of knee ( > 12�°); evidenced by imaging or other evidences and requiring surgical intervention b)Non-ambulant patients c)Self-reported joint disorders (e.g. inflammatory joint disease,specific arthropathy, severe axis deviations or instabilities, joint or skin infections, joint prostheses of the lower limbs) other than osteoarthritis d)Intra-articular injections within 2 weeks prior to study entry e)Uncontrolled, unevaluated and/or complicated diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and other co-morbidities f)Cases with other systemic unevaluated or uncontrolled diseases like cardiovascular, renal, gastro-intestinal, endocrinal, gynecological diseases etc. or systemic infections affecting quality of life or on other treatment therapies g)Psychiatric illness h)Patients with any vital organ failure i)Recent significant knee surgery within last 6 months j)Cases with transplanted knees k)History of homeopathic treatment for any chronic disease within last 6 months l)Self-reported immune-compromised states m)Alcohol/drug addiction or dependence
