Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Children of 1- 18 years with idiopathic Nephrotic Syndrome(NS) including Frequently Relapsing NEphrotic Syndrome (FRNS),Infrequently Relapsing Nephrotic Syndrome (IFRNS),Steroid Dependent Nephrotic Syndrome (SDNS) and first episode of NS.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: a) Children with steroid resistant NS (SRNS). b) Children with secondary NS (e.g. lupus nephritis, Ig A nephropathy, Henoch-Schonlein Purpura nephritis). c) Children with active infections. d) Children once enrolled in the study shall not be enrolled again in the study during future relapse. In case any further relapse occurs, they shall be managed with the previous treatment regimen only (in order to ascertain the cumulative dosage of steroid).

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
time taken for remission between body weight-based prednisolone versus Body surface area-based prednisolone regimen in children with NS. Timepoint: number of days taken from start of prednisolone to remission (three consequtive days urine albumin nil). mean difference of 2 days between the two groups is considered significant

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Number of relapses, adverse effects of steroids(in the form of hypertension, obesity, cushingoid features, serious infections like peritonitis, cellulitis&pneumonia, eye changes like glaucoma ,cataract&hypertensive retinopathy, deranged HbA1c),cumulative dosage of prednisolone (mg/kg per 6 months),clinical effect in different subtypes of NS between body weight-based prednisolone versus body surface area-based prednisolone regimen in children with NS on a follow up period of 6 months.Timepoint: follow up of 6 months
