Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Plasmodium parasite on peripheral blood smear AND/OR positive rapid diagnostic test AND One or more of WHO clinical or lab criteria of severe malaria (WHO 2010)
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. Any serious chronic disease 2. History of allergy to quinine/ artemisinins 3. Received any blood products, cytotoxic drugs, radiotherapy in last 6 weeks 4. Documented history of anti malarial drug in last 24 hours 5. Not willing for admission till the end of study period

| To compare quinine and ACT on the basis of : 1. Efficacy/Cure: Temperature is less than 37.5 C for 24 hours with 2 negative peripheral smears for malarial parasite 12 hours apart 2. Fever clearance time 3. Parasite clearance time 4. Coma recovery time:Till Blantyre coma score is 3 or Glasgow coma score is 13 5. Time to hospital discharge 6. Neurological deficit at discharge 7. Monitor serious adverse effects resulting in discontinuation of treatmentTimepoint: From the time of drug initiation till day 7 | — |
