Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: American society of Anesthesiologist physical status grade I and II, 20-60 years, either sex scheduled to undergo surgical procedures requiring general anesthesia with tracheal intubation

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients with fasting status less than six hours, history of significant heart disease, moderate to severe chronic obstructive airway disease, asthma, recent respiratory tract infection, renal dysfunction, gastro-esophageal reflux or hiatus hernia, alcohol or substance abuse, previous or predicted difficult intubation, body mass index > 30kg/m2 and pregnant woman

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
To evaluate the efficacy of Bispectral index(BIS) in predicting the optimum time of intubation during sevoflurane induction of anesthesia in adults without neuromuscular blockade at BIS value of 25±5 and 40±5Timepoint: Time of endotracheal intubation

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
1. Intubation conditions 2. Duration to achieve target BIS value 3. Haemodynamic parameters 4. Side effects and adverse eventsTimepoint: 1. For intubation conditions- at the time of tracheal intubation 2.Duration in minutes to achieve target BIS value- total time taken from induction of anesthesia to target BIS value 25 or 40 as per randomization 3. Haemodynamics-Every 1 minute from induction of anaesthesia to up to 5 minutes post intubation 4.Side effects- Every 1 minute from induction of anaesthesia to up to 5 minutes post tracheal intubation
