Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Patients with fasting status less than six hours, history of significant heart disease, moderate to severe chronic obstructive airway disease, asthma, recent respiratory tract infection, renal dysfunction, gastro-esophageal reflux or hiatus hernia, alcohol or substance abuse, previous or predicted difficult intubation, body mass index > 30kg/m2 and pregnant woman
Design outcomes
Primary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| To evaluate the efficacy of Bispectral index(BIS) in predicting the optimum time of intubation during sevoflurane induction of anesthesia in adults without neuromuscular blockade at BIS value of 25±5 and 40±5Timepoint: Time of endotracheal intubation | — |
Secondary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| 1. Intubation conditions 2. Duration to achieve target BIS value 3. Haemodynamic parameters 4. Side effects and adverse eventsTimepoint: 1. For intubation conditions- at the time of tracheal intubation 2.Duration in minutes to achieve target BIS value- total time taken from induction of anesthesia to target BIS value 25 or 40 as per randomization 3. Haemodynamics-Every 1 minute from induction of anaesthesia to up to 5 minutes post intubation 4.Side effects- Every 1 minute from induction of anaesthesia to up to 5 minutes post tracheal intubation | — |
