Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1. Admitted for any elective non-cardiac surgery under general anesthesia with endotracheal intubation 2. ASA I
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. Patients with comorbid illnesses such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, ischemic heart disease 2. Patients on medications such as beta-blockers, calcium channel blockers and vasodilators 3. Patients with predicted difficulty in intubation, those who required more than one attempt at laryngoscopy and those in whom the duration of laryngoscopy exceeded 30 seconds 4. Patients having allergies to the drugs being administered during the course of the study, and those patients taking antacids and Cimetidine
