Intervention1: Non surgical periodontal therapy: ultrasonic scaling, subgingival scaling and root planing, over a period of two to three sittings Control Intervention1: No periodontal therapy: patient

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1.Moderate to severe periodontitis with haemoglobin level below reference value(13-18g/dl) 2.Male patients age between 35-55yrs 3.At least 20 teeth

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1.Self reported intake of vitamins and iron supplementation or any anti-inflammatory or antimicrobial drug with in previous 3month 2.Acute or chronic medical conditions including diabetes or viral, fungal or bacterial infections 3.Smokers or smokeless tobacco or betel nut and betel quid consumers, alcohol consumers 4.Chronic kidney disease and worm infestation 5.Past periodontal treatment 6.Recent history of trauma or tooth extraction with excessive blood loss

To assess the effect of nonsurgical periodontal therapy in improving the serum iron status and haemoglobin level in patients with chronic periodontitis and signs of anaemia chronic diseases.Timepoint: three months
