Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Cases include inborn babies with 1. Gestational age >=37 weeks 2. Evidence of encephalopathy (Sarnatâ??s staging) 3. Umbilical cord arterial blood pH =12 mmol/L) 4. Any two of the following criteria: i. APGAR ii. Evidence of foetal distress iii. Assisted ventilation for at least 10 min after birth iv. Evidence of any organ dysfunction v. History of acute perinatal event like intrapartum foetal distress, cord prolapse, placental abruption, uterine rupture.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria: 1. Gestational age less than 37 weeks or > 42 weeks. 2. Evidence of obvious congenital malformations. 3. Major birth trauma. 4. Death of newborn within 72 hours. 5. Newborns born to mothers with systemic illness like diabetes, hypertension.
