Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Children between 2 months to 5 years with radiologically confirmed pneumonia and clinical features defined as per modified WHO / BTS guidelines.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Infants 2. Children > 5 years of age. 3. Children with renal disorders. 4. Children with associated CNS infections. 5. Children with gastroenteritis. 6. Children on drugs which can cause electrolyte imbalance such as diuretics, anticonvulsants etc.

Primary

MeasureTime frame
To explore the possible significance of dyselectrolytemia on the clinical course of severe pneumonia in children below 5 years.Timepoint: ON DAY 1, 2,3 OF ADMISSION

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
1. To identify the incidence of dyselectrolytemia in children between 2 months to 5 years with severe pneumonia. 2. To find any association of Syndrome of inappropriate secretion of anti-diuretic hormone (SIADH) with pneumonia and its outcome. 3.To identify the association of dyselectrolytemia with morbidity, mortality and duration of hospital stay in children with severe pneumonia. Timepoint: DURING DISCHARGE
