Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Singleton pregnancy from 26 to 33+6/7 weeks of gestation with intact membranes with arrested preterm labour PRETERM LABOUR: women with regular uterine contractions at a frequency of 4 per 20 minutes or 8 per 60 minutes, and accompanied by one of the following- cervical dilation >2cm or effacement >50% If cervical findings were uncertain then transvaginal ultrasound measured cervical length ARRESTED PRETERM LABOUR: women who presented with preterm labour, received acute tocolysis and achieved uterine quiescence (defined as less than four contractions per hour for 12 hours or without progression of labour after 48 hours of acute tocolysis)
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. Antepartum haemorrhage (Abruption placentae and Placenta praevia) 2. Fetal or maternal indication for termination of pregnancy 3. Fetal death or major congenital anomalies incompatible with life 4. Multiple gestation 5. Cervical dilatation >4cm 6. Contraindication to nifedipine (hypersensitivity, left ventricular dysfunction, congestive heart failure, renal disease, hypotension i.e. BP 7. Hypertension (chronic HT, gestational HT, pre-eclampsia)
