Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: patients aged 18-70 years of ASA Status 1-2 undergoing surgery under subarachnoid block/ combined spinal epidural anesthesia lasting 30 minutes to 2 hours

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Patient refusal 2. age > 70years or 3. known allergy to given drugs 4. any contraindication to subarachnoid block 5. patients inability to maintain stillness during the procedure 6. raised intracranial pressure 7. intrinsic or idiopathic coagulopathy 8. skin or soft tissue infection at the proposed site of block 9. severe hypovolemia 10. obesity(BMI >35) 11. Neurological or psychiatric disease on concurrent medication

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
decrease in entropy values after subarachnoid block per seTimepoint: seen at 5, 10, 15 , 20 minutes after the subarachnoid block

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
difference in propofol requirement between the two groupsTimepoint: every 5 min after the starting of propofol sedation i.e 20 minutes after the SAB
