Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Volunteers with BMI greater than 23 kg per metre square and with fasting less than 7 mmol per litre (less than 126 mg per decilitre) are included in the study.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Volunteers with a BMI less than 23 kg per square metre, known diabetes or any other medical co-morbidity, on any medication or with fasting blood glucose greater than or equal to 7 mmol per litre (greater than or equal to 126mg per decilitre) were excluded from the study.

To compare the effects of 24-hour glycemic and insulinemic responses of brown rice (BR), white rice (WR) and brown rice with legume (BRL) diets.Timepoint: 12 MONTHS

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Replacement of the commonly consumed staple food such as white rice with brown rice in diet can reduce the average 24hr glucose excursions insulin levels in blood over a period of time and could reduce diabetes risk in overweight and obese subjects. The study results would further form the basis for future intervention trials based on brown rice substitution to reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes and related chronic diseases.Timepoint: 12 months
