Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Newborn babies upto the age of 44 weeks postmenstrual age, i.e. 4 weeks after expected date of delivery with severe thrombocytopenia admitted in the NICU, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1.Newborn with Major/life-threatening congenital malformations 2.Known immune thrombocytopenia 3.Birth weight less than 1000 g or less than 30 weeks gestational age and 1st week of life

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Number of platelet transfusions in two group of subjects who receive transfusions based on either platelet count or platelet massTimepoint: end of trombocytopenic episodes i.e. once the platelet count is more than 1.0 lac on two consecutive occasions.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
1.Correlation of MPV and platelet count. 2.Incidence of major and severe haemorrhage in both groups of platelet transfusions. 3.Mortality in two groups. Timepoint: 1. For each platelet count and MPV during the study period. 2. and 3.At the time of end of thrombocytopenia episode
