Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: This study was conducted on 60 patients of either sex in the age range of 16 to 60 years and belonging to American Society of Anesthesiologists(ASA) grade 1/2.Prior approval of the Instituteâ??s medical ethics committee was obtained. Informed written consent was taken from all the patients.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: The patients with known history of allergy to these drugs, hemodyna-mically unstable patients and unwilling/uncooperative patients with psychiatric illness were excluded from the study so also patients on drug therapy known to interfere with pharmacokinetics of these anesthetics.

| Incidence of pain on iv injection and respiratory depression was seen with Propofol. No major side effects were seen with Thiopental. Myoclonic limb movements and PONV was observed with Etomidate.Timepoint: Onset of action (induction time) was shortest with Etomidate followed by propofol and then thiopental;VAS in the three groups during 2 hours postoperatively did not show any significant difference.Timepoint: Mean VAS was 0 in thiopental and Propofol group and 0.1+-0.45 in Etomidate group. | — |
