Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1.male and female aged 30-70 years 2.body mass index = > 23 kg/m2 3.Fasting plasma glucose 100-125 mg/dl (IFG) 4.Post 75 g oral glucose load plasma glucose (OGTT) 140-199 mg/dl (IGT) 5.willing to sign informed consent form

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1.Those taking drugs known to alter glucose tolerance 2.Type1 diabetes mellitus 3.Fasting triglycerides 400 mg/dl 4.History of cancer, any major illness of the liver, kidney and central nervous system 5.Significant cardiovascular disease defined as Decompensated heart failure (NYHA class III and IV) Diagnosis of unstable angina pectoris Recent (within the last 6 months) myocardial infarction 6.Female who are pregnant, breast feeding or planning a pregnancy during the course of the study. 7.Subjects on systemic glucocorticoids, beta blockers, thiazides and nicotinic acid 8. Known hypersensitivity to the drug
