Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1. Ethnic group: Tamil speaking Dravidians 2. Age 3. Clinically diagnosed sepsis with at least two screening tests positive such as mESR, CRP, CBC. 4. No antibiotic treatment before blood sample collection
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. Surgical procedures 2. Maternal history of infections, inflammations or antibiotic therapy before delivery 3. Apgar score 4. Presence of congenital malformations.

Association of SNPs/CNVs of selected genes with neonatal sepsis can be used as genetic marker for prognosis of disease susceptibility and associated outcomes. iii.
