Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Ethnic group: Tamil speaking Dravidians 2. Age 3. Clinically diagnosed sepsis with at least two screening tests positive such as mESR, CRP, CBC. 4. No antibiotic treatment before blood sample collection

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Surgical procedures 2. Maternal history of infections, inflammations or antibiotic therapy before delivery 3. Apgar score 4. Presence of congenital malformations.

MeasureTime frame
i. Minor allele frequency of selected SNPs in Tamil speaking Dravidian population will add knowledge to existing human genetic database. ii. Association of SNPs/CNVs of selected genes with neonatal sepsis can be used as genetic marker for prognosis of disease susceptibility and associated outcomes. iii. Association of SNPs/CNVs with inflammatory cytokines levels can be used to predetermine the severity of inflammation during sepsis progression.Timepoint: After genotyping
