Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients undergoing posterolateral thoracotomy for pulmonary resection, either primary lung malignancy or metastasis ECOG Performance status 0 or 1 Age between 18 and 75 years ASA Grade 1 or 2

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients with previous thoractomy, patients who will have additional incisions (besides thoracotomy), patients on narcotic analgesics, anti inflammatory drugs and medications for neuropathic pain (anti convulsants, gabapentin and analogues, amytriptylin), unreliable for follow-up, previous radiotherapy, chest wall involvement, allergy to fentanyl or morphine, any contra-indication to paracetamol or diclofenac, patients not willing to use or unable to comprehend the use of patient-controlled analgesia
