Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. All patients in the Surgical ICU who have had an emergency laparotomy a. for trauma or b. intra-abdominal sepsis 2. Pancreatitis patients in the Surgical ICU

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: • Age < 15years • Rectal, colonic and perianal surgeries • Trauma with perianal lacerations • Proximal diversion ileostomy • Hard impacted stool at the time of colonoscopy. • Bladder surgeries • Patients with abdominal wound dehiscence • Decompressive laprotomy and primary abdominal closure using mesh

1.Reduction in intra abdominal pressure 2.improvement in pulmonary parameters 3.changes in the mucosal PhTimepoint: The IAP will be an imediate effect and will be measured at 12 hour interval The respiratory parameters might take more than 24 hrs to settle
