Brief summary

This is a retrospective study aiming to look at rates and predictors of escalation in patients admitted to the Queensland Children's Hospital HITH. Patient-specific, clinical and service-related factors will be assessed.

Interventions

The study aims to determine the rate of clinical escalation—defined as unplanned re-presentation to the emergency department or unplanned readmission to a traditional inpatient (brick and mortar) hospital setting—among paediatric Hospital in the Home (HITH) patients over a six-month period from November 2025 to April 2026. It is a retrospective observational study using the data that is already collected as part of routine clinical care. There is no requirement for participants to do anything. T

All HITH admissions from November 2025 to April 2026 Admission for inpatient-equivalent medical care to be delivered at home Meet HITH admission criteria

Exclusion criteria

Planned elective admissions to inpatient ward from HITH Non-acute community care referrals Patients not transferred to HITH following referral
