Brief summary
The proposed research determines the effectiveness of an intervention to support nursing staff to share more meals in socially engaging ways as a strategy for reducing burnout. The main intervention comprises providing staff with “family”-size meal kits, that are healthy and encourage staff to share the meal with family or friends.
Interventions
Description of the Intervention The intervention will enable staff to share meals in socially positive ways through the provision of family-size meal kits (for 4 people), 3 times a week, for 6 weeks at no cost. Meal kits will include recipes and ingredient to prepare 3 meals per week, for 4 people. Meals generally include a protein, starch, and at least 2 vegetables. Participants are asked to prepare the meals as indicated and to share the meals as it suits them. Participants are also asked to complete short weekly surveys that assess what meals have been prepared and shared.

Eligibility
Inclusion criteria
Nurses (including midwives) employed at Mater South Brisbane are eligible to participate in the study.
Exclusion criteria
Participants will be excluded if: 1. they have any allergies or dietary requirements in their household that cannot be feasibly accommodated by the intervention 2. they already share meals with others on 4 or more days each week 3. they do not intend to remain employed at Mater for the duration of the study 4. do not work on-site, in a nursing role, at least 4 days per week 5. Live alone. The size of the meal kits cannot be tailored to individuals for the current study. During our feasibility study we found that participants living alone felt the amount of food to be prepared overwhelming and the expectation to share meals so frequently impractical.
