Brief summary

Children undergoing adenotonsillectomy has a high incidence of developing respiratory adverse effects as spasm in the upper airway and drop in their oxygen saturation . lidocaine may be effective in reducing the incidence of such problems in these children . We are going to study its efficacy in reducing the incidence of such complications.

Interventions

- Patients in one of the 2 groups will receive IV lidocaine 5 minutes before extubation - 1.5 mg/kg intravenous - the anesthesiologist will be the one to administer - medical documents will be used to assess adherence to intervention

American society of anesthesiologist 1 & 2 Children undergoing adenotonsillectomy

Exclusion criteria

Children with chronic respiratory disease Children with cardiac disease Allergy to lidocaine
