Brief summary

This study aims to explore whether taking part in a whanau-centred group health coaching programme can support adults living with Type 2 diabetes in Northland. Participants will attend weekly group sessions over eight weeks that focus on food choices, physical activity, lifestyle habits, and overall wellbeing in a supportive community setting. The study will look at changes in diabetes-related health measures (such as HbA1c where available) before and after the programme. It will also explore changes in wellbeing and health behaviours, as well as participants’ experiences of the programme. It is expected that participation may support improved diabetes self-management and hauora, and the findings will help inform future community-based programmes.

Interventions

Participants will take part in a structured, whanau-centred group health coaching programme delivered over eight weeks. The programme consists of weekly facilitated group sessions, each running for a maximum of 90 minutes, delivered in a community setting. Sessions will be delivered in groups of approximately 6 to 12 participants. Inclusion criteria

Maori descent 18-65 years living within the Northland region diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes self identifies as Maori and can share experiences related to health behaviour change in a culturally appropriate context currently engaged with, or eligible, for services at Te Hauora o Ngapuhi are able to participate in group sessions and interviews in Te Taitokerau
