Brief summary

This study aimed to compare the plaque removal effectiveness of three different types of toothbrushes—manual, electric, and triple-head—in children. Each child used all three toothbrush types in a randomized order with one-week washout periods between sessions. After brushing, plaque levels were assessed by an examiner blinded to the type of toothbrush used. Additionally, a parental developmental questionnaire was collected to evaluate whether developmental differences influence brushing performance.

Interventions

This randomized crossover clinical study compared the plaque removal effectiveness of three toothbrush types (manual, electric, and triple-head) in children. Each child used all three toothbrushes in different sequences, with a one-week washout period between sessions. Brushing was performed for 2 minutes under supervision using the same toothpaste.

Inclusion criteria

Absence of systemic health issues, The presence of fully erupted first permanent molars (teeth 16, 26, 36, and 46), The absence of carious lesions or significant orthodontic crowding, The ability to complete all three brushing sessions, and the return of a completed parental developmental questionnaire.

Exclusion criteria

Presence of systemic disease Missing, unerupted, or heavily restored first permanent molars (teeth 16, 26, 36, 46). Active dental caries or extensive restorations on teeth to be assesed Severe crowding preventing standard plaque assessment. Known allergy or hypersensitivity to the toothpaste ingredients used in the study. Inability or unwillingness of the child/parent to attend all three sessions or to provide informed consent/assent.
