Brief summary
This study compares the effectiveness of potassium nitrate varnish and fluoride varnish in reducing tooth sensitivity that occurs after tooth preparation for crowns or bridges. Such sensitivity, known as dentinal hypersensitivity, is a common issue after dental procedures involving exposed dentin. Participants will receive one of the two treatments, and their level of discomfort will be monitored over time. We hypothesize that potassium nitrate varnish is more effective than fluoride varnish in reducing post-preparation tooth sensitivity.
Interventions
Duration of the intervention would be 2 hours which would be applied to the teeth after tooth cutting/preparation. The concentration of potassium nitrate would be 6% which will be administered by the dentist. The strategies used to monitor adherence to the intervention if applicable would be medical records .

Inclusion criteria
1. Patients with vital tooth in need of fixed prosthesis restorations. 2.The selected teeth should not be adjacent. 3. Healthy patients who do not require the use of prophylactic antibiotics or complementary steroids.
Exclusion criteria
1. Patients allergic to desensitizers. 2. Non vital/ endodontically treated tooth. 3. Periodontal disease. 4. Carious tooth 5. Hypersensitivity of the teeth. 6. Use of antihistamine, anti inflammatory, analgesic and opioid drus.
