Brief summary
The main aim of the research project will be to evaluate indicators of prooxidant-antioxidant balance, markers of skeletal muscle and heart damage, blood morphology. The expression of mRNA for selected genes in mononuclear cells (PBMC) from the blood of individuals before and after completing a marathon was also assessed. The study involved 30 men aged 35-50 with greater than or equal to 3 years of training experience who will participate in a continuous marathon and ultramarathon run during the Silesia Marathon event. The subjects will have their blood pressure and basic anthropometric parameters measured at rest and immediately after exercise. The subjects' eating habits and training characteristics between competitions will be assessed. Blood will be collected from the median cubital vein at three time points: at rest, immediately after exercise and 24 hours after exercise. Blood for the determination of the expression of selected genes will be collected at rest and 24 hours after exercise.
Interventions
The subject of the planned research is the assessment of selected biochemical markers in the blood of athletes participating in continuous running at marathon and ultramarathon distances during the Silesia Marathon event. At rest and immediately after exercise, the subjects will undergo blood pressure measurements and basic anthropometric measurements. During the race, their pace will be assessed. In addition, the subjects will be asked to complete a questionnaire on their eating habits and the characteristics of the training they do between competitions (anticipated to take 30 minutes to complete). Blood will be collected from the median cubital vein at three time points: at rest, immediately after exercise, and 24 hours after exercise.
