Brief summary
This clinical study aims to compare the accuracy of working length determination in root canal treatment using the world’s smallest apex locator (Airpex) versus conventional digital radiography (Nano Pix Size 2). A total of 126 patients with single-rooted teeth will be enrolled at the Department of Operative Dentistry and Endodontics, Khyber College of Dentistry. Each patient will undergo both measurement techniques, and the difference in working lengths will be recorded. The study seeks to evaluate whether the apex locator can provide comparable or better accuracy while reducing radiation exposure and improving patient compliance.
Interventions
Each patient will undergo both procedures for the same canal, and the results will be compared to assess the accuracy of working length measurements between the two methods The intervention will be delivered by a qualified dentist in the Department of Operative Dentistry and Endodontics, Khyber College of Dentistry (KCD). The estimated duration of the intervention per patient is approximately 30–40 minutes, including local anesthesia, access cavity preparation, pulp removal, irrigation, drying, and working length measurement. Adherence to the intervention will be assessed through: Digital recording of working length measurements. Cross-verification by another doctor to minimize bias. Use of a standardized proforma (Annexure A) for consistent data documentation.

Inclusion criteria
Patients aged between 20 and 60 years Teeth with a single canal Teeth with fully formed apices Patients who provide informed consent Patients reporting to the Department of Operative Dentistry and Endodontics at Khyber College of Dentistry (KCD) Teeth without existing endodontic treatment
Exclusion criteria
Teeth with open apices Teeth with existing or active root resorption Teeth with poor prognosis or those likely to require extraction Teeth with adjacent metallic restorations (which may interfere with electronic measurements) Teeth with calcified canals or any associated pathology Patients undergoing re-endodontic (re-endo) treatment Patients unwilling or unable to provide informed consent
